walk free

( Read Galatians 5:13-26 )

If you belong to Jesus Christ, if you trust and rest in Him and His finished work, then you are no longer under the law, and you no longer are a slave to sin. You no longer have to keep up a performance. You no longer have to say the right thing, do the right thing, or be someone you are not. You are free to do whatever you want. Then Paul would ask if you were free, why choose to do that which is bad, and that which would enslave you?

This can be so subtle, and hard to detect, these things that are at our heart level. Why do we read God’s Word, or serve our church? Do we find ourselves prone to anger or acting one way in public and another in private. These are a few signs that we may be living our life according to the flesh and not keeping in step with the Spirit. 

Are you looking to Jesus, or are we simply looking to religious things? If we look to Jesus, then we are not only free, but we can live free. If we look to Jesus then we will in love serve others, we will fight the flesh, we will produce good fruit, and we will inherit the kingdom of God. 

Beloved, these are great promised given to us. So, live free this week. Give up the work and sit at the feet of Jesus. There we will find rest for our souls. “Run, run, and work the law commands, yet finds me neither feet nor hands; But sweeter news the gospel brings, it bids me fly and lends me wings!” (John Berridge).
