are you happy?

Are you happy? Surveys tell us happiness is slipping away for millions. Young people especially say they laugh often but rarely feel joy. Maybe you can relate—life is full, yet your heart feels empty. John’s Gospel opens with the answer to our search for happiness. He does not begin with advice on circumstances or feelings. Instead, he starts with Jesus: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). Real happiness is not found in possessions, pleasure, or success—it is found in knowing the eternal Word, Jesus Christ.

John tells us that Jesus is eternal, the Creator, the true Light, and the only Savior. “In him was life, and the life was the light of men” (v. 4). The world promises joy but delivers emptiness; Christ alone brings life and light that no darkness can overcome. Eternal life is not just a future hope but a present reality for all who believe. And here is the good news: happiness is not something you achieve but something you receive. “To all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (v. 12). In Christ, your sins are forgiven, your burdens lifted, and your soul filled with joy the world cannot take away.

Beloved, if you are searching for happiness today, look to Jesus. Receive Him as Savior and walk as a child of God. True happiness is not a fleeting feeling but a lasting joy rooted in Christ’s light and life.
